Cadillac Volt Based Concept Heading to Detroit? (from WORLD CAR FANS)

With the North American International Auto Show less than a month away, speculation is rampant about what new production and concept cars will make a surprise debut in the Motor City. According to AutoWeek's sources it appears that cash-strapped GM may debut a new Cadillac which uses the powertrain from the Chevrolet Volt.

All the speculation is backed up by several statements from GM's vice chairman, Bob Lutz, who earlier stated that "there's definitely room" for an eco-friendly Cadillac electric vehicle. He also went on to say that "There's going to have to be some kind of dramatic environmental statement from Cadillac," something the Cadillac Escalade Hybrid doesn't exactly accomplish.

A Cadillac using Volt technology makes a lot of sense when price is factored into the equation. The Volt is expected to cost nearly $40,000 dollars, much higher than any other Chevy car and in reality some people may not be willing to put up 40k for something with a bow-tie logo. With a Cadillac version GM would be able to charge a higher premium and potentially recoup more of the nearly $1 billion dollars they have invested into the Volt.

Speculation seems to point towards the new 2010 Cadillac SRX as the leading candidate to receive the Volt powertrain but nothing is official as of now.
