Your Security when Shopping Online. What to Look for and What We Do.
Customizing your vehicle's exterior with a spoiler, wing, or body kit is a significant investment. You protect your vehicle. Protect yourself when you shop online. The following doesn't cover everything, but it does tell you some key things to look for when you are considering a financial transaction online. It also tells you some of what we have in place. Take a quick read.
Always make sure the address of the site you are visiting matches the address you are expecting to see. Be sure that you haven't unknowingly been sent to a site that has been made to look like the real thing. Scammers have gone to great lengths to make their sites look real. Your first clue is in the address line.
Once you are sure you are on the site you want to be on, look for their security seal. If you click it and nothing happens, it is just a worthless picture. If you click it and a window pops up, but without the correct date, or it doesn't begin with the name of the seal provider (for example - Verisign), it is also fake and useless. If it is expired, it should be obvious it is worthless. In our case, when you click on the Security Seal, make sure that the URL of the page begins with "https://seal.verisign.com".
If the seal looks legitimate, what is it verifying? It should verify two things: your private information is secure and, the e-commerce site you are shopping is a real business. It is fairly easy to buy a legitimate, cheap security seal to get SSL (Secure Socket Layer) for transacting money over the internet. However, is it really a business or someone with a credit card and a laptop that setup a website? The seal should show that the official business records have been verified. You will see both of these items when you click on our Seal.
Great - you are on the site you want to be, it has a Security Seal and it appears valid. Is that enough? No. Who issued the seal? There are many legitimate security companies that issue seals very cheaply. They might be fine. However, we are putting our trust where the big names put theirs: VeriSign. VeriSign SSL Certificates are used by more than 93% of the Fortune 500 companies and 94% of the top-50 e-commerce sites. Makes sense for them so it made sense for us. We use VeriSign.
Even with an excellent Security Provider, there's more. Depends how serious the business wants to be regarding their customer's security. You can have different levels of security. The highest level of encryption available is SGC (Server Gated Cryptography). It's the standard for large-scale online merchants, banks, brokerages, health care organizations and insurance companies. It's what we use.
That's the fundamentals. You shouldn't have to know all of that, but with all the scams, its good to have an idea of the basics of internet security - for your own protection. The customizing accessories we sell for your car's exterior - whether it be a factory style spoiler, custom wing, Razzi Ground Effects kit, or a combination for a full body kit aren't cheap pieces. We go to great lengths to protect your web transactions. Make sure you do as well.
